NATURAL BABY ALPACA
BABY ALPACA
Rare and luxurious Fiber with unique thermal properties and incredible softness
Baby alpaca is a relatively unknown specialty fiber which is very rare and of extremely high quality. Baby alpaca is stronger, lighter, warmer and more resilient than wool, and just as soft as cashmere.
Baby alpaca is the most rare and finest classification of alpaca fibres. The alpaca is bred in altitudes ranging from 3500 to 4500 meters above the sea level, where they withstand temperatures that fluctuate between -20oC to +30oC in a single day and survive on a special low-protein diet based on natural grasses.
Baby alpaca fiber is seven times warmer than wool thanks to microscopic pockets within the fibers that trap air. These pockets allow the user to breathe through it on warm days, and likewise trap body heat in cold weather.
Baby alpaca is considered a luxury fiber because it is as soft as cashmere and has the luster of silk. Baby alpaca is very comfortable due to its uniform fineness and softness. Many people who are sensitive to the “scratchiness” of wool are perfectly comfortable wearing baby alpaca because the scales on the outside of the alpaca fiber are smaller, much less defined, and overlap less than the barbs on wool, which makes baby alpaca smoother than wool and also contributes to its luster and drape. Baby alpaca fiber is thirty times finer than our own human hair.
Alpaca fiber is naturally hypoallergenic, as it is free from dander and lanolin oils, unlike sheep wool that requires harsh toxic chemicals to remove the lanolin and often leaves irritant residues. Since alpaca contains no lanolin, harsh toxic chemicals are not needed to process alpaca, and those who are allergic to the substance in wool can wear alpaca with ease. Alpaca will also stay cleaner longer because it is lanolin free and doesn't hold dust.
Durable with 22 natural colors
Alpaca fiber is extremely strong resulting in more durable apparel. Because of fiber length it is resistant to pilling, and will not shrink if proper care is given. Baby alpaca has a high stretch resistance (elasticity) compared to cashmere which easily stretches and often 'clings' to you. Alpaca is also non flammable
Alpacas are the only fiber producing animal with more than 22 recognized natural colors, ranging from black to white, with varying shades of browns, reds and grays.
